Last night I officially registered for the Philadelphia Marathon, so there's no turning back now! I just hope it doesn't snow or something on race day. Who else is going to be there??
Week four of marathon training is under way, with eight miles on the charts for today. It was another hot day! August is not a fun month for running. Luckily it wasn't too toasty, but I really think the world needs to invest in more water fountains. The exciting part today was that most people waved back to me! Some even initiated! Eastern Pennsylvania is slowly becoming more friendly...I don't think it will ever get up to my friendly Midwest standard, but I'm seeing improvement.
Tuesday, August 11
8.06 miles in 1:06:27, avg pace of 8:14
I skipped the strides because...well...I just didn't feel like doing them. It was hot. Excuses, excuses...but I think I'll make it.
In other news, I got a monstrosity of a hair cut yesterday. I'm VERY picky about how I like my hair, so testing the waters with a new stylist is a big deal. Looking back, I should have waited until I'm going home in about a month and just had it cut with my tried and true stylist, but hindsight is 20/20. The cut itself isn't too terrible, it's just not at all what I asked for! It's about two inches shorter and has zero layers in it. I pointed to how long I wanted it to be and then said "with long layers...like I have now." Gah. After telling her that I've always parted my hair down the middle, she attempts to style it with a side part. Then charged me extra because my hair was long. Well, it's not anymore!
I'm debating between attempting to damage control and get it fixed somewhere (my layers would be way short...at least for me) or just let it grow out and then deal with it. I wear my hair up five days out of the week (thanks, nursing!), but it's still annoying.
Okay, end rant. Hair grows, life will go on.

Congrats on signing up! I am actually getting a haircut tomorrow so I hope you didn't jinx me!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being officially signed up for Philly!
ReplyDeleteBummer about your haircut. I hate almost every haircut I get, but after a few days, I chill out a bit. If you still hate it at the end of the week, maybe try for some damage control with another stylist?
Yay for officially signing up!! I'm sure your hair looks fine but I hate bad hair cuts too!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could let it grow out until you go home and then get your normal stylist to fix it up. That way it might have a little more length by then?
ReplyDeleteAnd Congrats on being official for Philly!
Philadelphia Marathon, so exciting! My friend and I are thinking of possibly doing the half, but we're not sure yet. We'd rather do something earlier than the end of November, but we'll see! I've been itching to do another half recently..it's all this reading about marathon training! I'm not ready for a full 26.2 yet though.
ReplyDeleteI think Jess's idea is a good one, then you can be sure that your damage control won't do more damage!
wish i could do philadelphia -- i ran it in 2005! it was freaking cold. it is a nice course, though!
ReplyDeletei am excited to see the hair in person!!! i can't believe the summit is this week -- i think it is going to be rather surreal.
Congrats on signing up! You're training so well so I'm sure you'll have a very good result there. Hmmm...I think I'll probably be there to see it first hand...
ReplyDeletePhilly is going to be great. I know several people who have run it and really liked it. It will probably be chilly, espeically at the start! Very exciting.
ReplyDeleteYay Philly! :)
ReplyDeleteBoo haircut! What the heck! I hate it when the stylist does not listen to you AT ALL :( I bet you still look great, but I would be bummed too!
haha "hair grows" - so true, but I'm with you- VERY picky about haircuts and stylists!! I have one from College that I still go see if I head up to PSU for a visit :) haha. he's awesome!!
ReplyDeleteUgh. I hate bad hair cuts. Maybe this one will grow on you, so to speak. Next time I guess just stick to your old stylist. Oh well, live and learn!
ReplyDeletePrenatals. :o) They made me super constipated, but hey, my hack job of a haircut grew back plenty quick.
ReplyDelete(I'm sure it's SUPER cute though!)
I put off my haircuts for.ev.er. because I'm so scared I won't like it. :( YAY FOR SIGNING UP FOR THE RACE!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm considering the Philly Marathon, but Steamtown is a lot cheaper so I may just go with that for the cost savings...
